Ralphs Radiators

Q. The top plastic part of my radiator (the tank) is cracked and leaking. Can you repair this?

A. Plastic tanks usually last between 7 and 10 years, depending on frequency of use. They crack because the plastic has become old and brittle and hence cannot be repaired. However we can certainly help you with a tank replacement if your core is in good condition, or a new radiator.

Q. How long does it take to replace my radiator?

The time it takes will depend on the model of your car and difficulty of removal and installation. Generally, we need your car for around 2 hours.

Q. How do I get a quote for a re-core?

It is best to send us a photo of your radiator and measure just the core (not including the sidebands or top and bottom tanks).

Q. Do I need to make an appointment for an installation?

A. Yes, we would prefer that you make an appointment so that we can dedicate a period of time to the installation of your radiator.

Q. What’s the difference between copper radiators and aluminum radiators?

A.

  1. You can’t re-core aluminum radiators whereas you can re-core copper radiators. However we can make a ‘complete’ new radiator out of copper & brass if you cannot find a replacement aluminium radiator.
  2. Copper radiators are 5% more efficient in cooling compared to aluminum radiators.
  3. Copper radiators are much more robust and not as susceptible to dirty water and contaminants.
  4. Copper radiators will withstand stray current (electrolysis) much more than aluminum radiators. We have seen genuine aluminum radiators leak just after a few weeks due to stray current damage.

Q. Can you repair an aluminum core?

A. If the core has been damaged externally, we may be able to repair the tubes depending on the location of the damage. If the leak is from internal corrosion, generally these cannot be repaired.

Q. Can you repair a copper radiator?

A. Yes, we can repair copper cores, including repairs to any brass tanks or fittings.

Q. Why is there such a difference in the price of radiators?

A. Unfortunately, there are a lot of inferior aftermarket products. We only supply products from companies with exceptional quality control.

Q. Can I use tap water with my coolant/antifreeze?

A. No, you should never use tap water as it’s not PH neutral and is full of chemicals, like chlorine, which can cause your radiator to leak.

Q. Do we ship to the family Islands?

A. Yes, we pick up and also deliver to the mail boat or the airport.

Q. How can I pay?

A. You can pay with cash, all major credit and debit cards, as well as through bank transfers.
